Hello! We are the Nu class of Kappa Alpha Pi, a pre-law fraternity at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, and as a part of our initiation process we've been tasked with completing a service project. This project could've manifested in many ways; however, we collectively decided that we wanted to host a fundraiser for the local Champaign-Urbana 1:1 Mentoring Program. This program pairs local students from as early as 3rd grade with a mentor from the local community who serves as a form of support for the student throughout their school experiences.
Pulled from the CU One to One website: "Mentors and mentees spend time together doing fun, creative activities such as playing games, going for a walk, playing basketball, exploring on the computer, doing experiments, creating arts and craft projects, and talking and listening. A mentor's goal is to build a relationship of trust with their mentee." This program has been integral to the local school district and has been supporting students for nearly 30 years.
Upon 3 years in the program and graduation from high school, each student may receive up to $14,000 in scholarship funds spread over the course of 8 semester terms at a University, Community College, or Technical School of their choosing on qualified expenses. These awards are not given based on financial need or grades.
100% of donations go directly towards funding these scholarships for students, so we would truly appreciate it if you could donate towards this cause. You can do so through making a $5 donation for a ticket to our Trivia Night fundraiser (set for Tuesday April 15th in Lincoln Hall Room 1000) or by donating to this GoFundMe if you are not able to attend. Prizes will also be given to the winners at the Trivia Night!
