The Kao ONE Committee is facilitating our participation in the Knights Table Adopt-A-Family Holiday Program once again this year. The program supports families in need with one month of groceries, as there is no access to the Knights Table foodbank from after the holidays until mid-January, and gifts from their holiday wish list.

This year we are happy to be supporting Jennifer (age 77) and her three grandchildren (ages 10, 12 and 13) who she is sole guardian of after her daughter tragically lost her battle to cancer in 2023 at age 45.

Please the read following, directly from Jennifer, in regards to her family’s current situation:

“My name is Jennifer, and I am a grandmother to three beautiful children who mean the world to me. On February 28, 2023, my life changed forever. My daughter—my baby - lost her long and painful battle with cancer. She was only 45 years old. Far too young. Losing her felt like losing a piece of myself, and in the quiet hours of the night, that ache still sits heavy on my chest.

When she passed, I found myself standing in the middle of a world that suddenly felt too big and too empty. In one moment, I became not only a grieving mother but also the sole guardian of three little souls who were hurting in their own ways. Their father was not there to support them, and the responsibility of raising them—physically, emotionally, financially—fell entirely on my shoulders.

I won’t pretend it has been easy. There are days when exhaustion sits in my bones, and I wonder how I’ll make it through. But then I look at their faces—those sweet, innocent faces that still carry traces of their mother’s smile—and I remind myself that they need me, and I need them just as much. They are the reason I keep pushing forward. They are my strength; I do my best.”
