To our dear community friends- In case you didn’t know, the Kanka Family: Tom, Bev, Bobby, Emma and Frank, arrived home last week to a devastating house fire, completely gutting the inside of their house, and causing catastrophic damage to the basement, main and upper floors. The house has been deemed inhabitable as it is full of toxins resulting from the fire (started through the electrical system and compounded by a charger for a lithium battery). As a result, the Kankas are now living in a 250 sq ft hotel room, along with their two fur babies, whom their youngest, Frank was able to save during the fire. Insurance has stalled, and coincidentally, Tom who heroically battled the initial blaze leading to an immediate hospitalization, is already on short-term disability from work while recovering from heart health complications. While they would never openly ask, this beloved family is stretched over these additional emergency bills. I am setting up an account as a family friend with the beneficiary designated as Tom Kanka so he can begin to support the family with urgent needs. I hope we all can share back the kindness the Kanka family has shown the world and especially, our local communities, youth sports programs, church, and educational service for years.
