When I was pregnant with Kane I knew something was different. He was overactive and always scratching trying to make an escape. In 2011, Kane was born healthy, and exceeded all milestones, even reading site words at 18 months old. When I sang him to sleep he would sing back, echoing everything perfectly. However, after his 18-month old vaccination-MMR, he suffered mild encephalopathy and seizure’s. Consequently, he lost all motor control, speech and some memory. But, within just three months and after echoing my every word he was talking, walking, running and playing. He was excelling, but still developmentally delayed, and thus diagnosed Autistic.
Kane was seizure free for one year but as he grows, his brain grows and his seizures have become more frequent. After extensive testing and multiple visits to the ER, his geneticists and neurologists are not able to make a clear diagnosis. The test that will tell us why he’s having seizures is: GeneDX’s Whole Exome Sequencing (WES). Unfortunately, this testing has been denied by his insurance and comes at a cost that I just can not cover alone. This is where Kane needs your help. We are asking friends and family to donate what they feel comfortable with. Any amount is appreciated.
Without this test, we may never find the answers to his ongoing health issues. Again, we are grateful for any gifted donation. More importantly thank you for your support and prayers.
Kane’s diagnosis today: Autism, HyperBeta-Alaninemia, Epilepsy; Complex Partial Seizures with impairment of consciousness associated with incontinence, Right arm Todd’s Paralysis, Paroxysmal Kineseogenic Dyskinesia Right side, ADHD, Movement Disorder, Seizures, Developmental Delay.
He loves water, especially swimming but this sporadic disease weakens his body. So when swimming he will slowly loose control of his right side; Hemiparesis. Let’s find an answer together and get Kane swimming by 2016 summer!
