Hi, my name is Saffie and I run Fife Dog Training, which helps many dogs and owners over Fife, as well as giving back to the community by many forms of fundraising that we have done throughout the years. I never thought I would ever have to ask for help for my own situation.
I have 4 dogs of my own, and sadly my oldest lady, Kandi, who is 15.5 years old, was very brutally attacked by a greyhound on Tuesday 27th May. Kandi was on her lead having a very gentle stroll in the field, with my dad, as she does every week. A greyhound came rushing off lead and went straight for her, grabbing her and throwing her around. My dad tried everything to help get the dog from her but sadly it has done a lot of damage. He is so deeply traumatised by this event, I know it has left him broken.
Kandi has suffered multiple bite wounds very deep, all over her body, chest, her throat was torn open, and internally her trachea has been torn too, she has also suffered a broken rib from the impact of the dog attacking her. She weighs 7kg!
She is currently at the specialist vets, who have managed to save her so far, but is now at the start of a long road of recovery which I’m praying she makes it through.
She has been a little fighter her whole life, and is the sweetest, calmest little girl, who did not deserve this in her final years of life.
My insurance for Kandi will not even cover a quarter of what the estimate is, but I have told the vets to do everything they can to give her the best chance of surviving - as long as it is fair on her and not to cause her suffering. The vets have all said she is fighting so well and doing amazing for what she has been through, we know she is lucky to survive this attack so far, and I know I am doing the right thing by allowing her a chance to fight this.
Kandi deserves to be brought home, where she will be loved and cared for, and we will make her final few months with us comfortable, so that we can help her have a peaceful ending to her journey with us, filled with love and happy memories, and not the fear and pain of this viscous attack.
As long as Kandi is giving us her best fight, I will continue to do everything I can for her.
For anyone who can help, I will always be grateful and I know Kandi will be too.
thank you for everyone’s continued support and understanding.
