Our good friend Darcie (Kanavati in the SCA) needs IMMEDIATE help with housing insecurity and finding a place where she can be safe from a very unsafe landlord situation.
In June, Kanavati moved from Brookings, OR to just east of White City, OR into an RV park under the promise that her older RV would be allowed, despite not usually being allowed by most parks. She lasted in this park only a month when the owner of the park unexpectedly told her she had to leave in August. Kanavati has a new job that started mid August and her first payments come in starting in September. Friends floated her a loan to help her pay for the downpayment and several months rent for a NEW RV hook up space on private land in Gold Hill, OR.
We thought everything was going to be good and Kanavati's luck was taking a turn for the better. That is until one of the other tenants on the land (or neighbor?) told Kanavati that the landlord was going to court for an assault of a former female tenant of his AND shared with her a video of the property owner verbally threatening another tenant (there are 3 RV spots total from my understanding) if he doesn't leave in October, he had a gun and it wouldn't go well.
Before Kanavati could make any decisions on what to do for her and her son's safety, yesterday, August 11th a deputy came to the property to talk to Kanavati's son. Apparently, the land owner had gotten into a fight with the other tenant, there was gunfire, the landlord was in jail and the tenant was in the hospital needing emergency surgery!
Kanavati needs to get out of this space immediately but had already given this man two months rent and a deposit. She has found another location with an SCA member's father (who we know is a good guy), the rent is $700/month with a $300 deposit. We are hoping to raise immediate funds to help Kanavati move to this space and recoup any losses she might have from this old RV space, especially since we don't know what the current landlord is capable of or will do if he finds out she is leaving.
Please consider giving as much as you can, and sharing this with everyone and pressing it upon everyone how immediate a need this is!
