Holy Trinity Football Club is an extra-curricular sports team for boys enrolled at Holy Trinity Humanities Academy in grades 7-9. Our purpose is "elevate to educate". We want to elevate our boys' academic and physical potential so as to better educate them for life.
With that purpose in mind, we have four goals. First, we want to glorify God and His gift of sport by helping our boys grow in virtue.
Second, we want to motivate our boys towards academic achievement. Boys on the team must maintain passing grades in their subjects each quarter.
Third we want to keep our boys active and away from occasions of sin. Idleness is the number one occasion of sin for many teenage boys.
Finally, we want to complete HTHA's aim of integral education by giving them an opportunity to develop their bodies and their physical talents through sport.
Curious what we mean by "Kanai"? "Kanai" is the local PNG Pidgin word for "seagull". We chose the kanai as our mascot because it is a cultural symbol for Vanimo's West Coast region. The kanai is the unique image at the top of the local canoe heads. A "canoe head" is what sits at the front of the local fishing canoes to guide the direction of the watercraft.
With this image we not only want to honor the local culture but also remind our boys that steering the canoe of their lives means heading in the right direction: God, His glory, and our salvation.
Note: This fundraiser is for the IVE School in Baro, Papua New Guinea. It is being facilitated through the IVE community in Hyattsville, MD. All proceeds raised on this page will go to support the HTFC soccer program in PNG.
