This GofundMe is dedicated to raising money to help my sister, Kami Kinghorn, with her Lyme disease treatment. Kami has been diagnosed with late-stage Lyme disease and has experienced debilitating symptoms since 2019. It has gotten worse in the last year due to contracting covid and Clostridium difficle infection from antibiotics which activated the Lyme even more. Kami's case, unfortunately, is complicated because she is not able to take antibiotics and has multiple coinfections associated with Lyme disease. Kami was bitten by a tick in 2012 and never received a correct diagnosis or treatment. The struggle to get a correct diagnosis, and the costs so far have been devasting to Kami physically, emotionally, and financially.

Lyme is a tick-borne illness caused by a bacterium that the tick injects into the host. The bacterium then multiplies and can affect every body organ, including the brain, nervous system, gut, muscles and joints, and the heart. Unfortunately, if not treated in the early stages, Lyme disease can become chronic, at which point treatments and recovery can become highly complex and expensive. It is excruciatingly painful, debilitating, and isolating, leaving her unable to care for herself at times or have any quality of life.

We are grateful Kami has finally received a correct diagnosis from a Lyme specialist in Utah who has years of experience treating chronic Lyme patients and has had great success in bringing them back to health. Because of the complexity of Kami's chronic condition, she will need long-term treatment along with non-conventional and alternative therapies. These treatments are crucial for her recovery and putting the disease into remission.

These treatments are not recognized by the CDC or private insurance companies.

Therefore, they become a costly out-of-pocket expense. Doctor consultations and visits range anywhere from $ 350.00 to $ 550.00 per visit from a half hour to 45 minutes which is an out-of-pocket expense and must be paid up front before being seen.

We know this is going to be a long process, but Kami is a fighter. She has always been very active and vibrant and is passionate about life, nature, friends, her family and her career. She believes healing her body is possible and she works every day to keep going and keep her spirits lifted. She is big-hearted with a generous soul, who longs to get her health and life back.
