Kamilas Recovery Journey
Donation protected
On April 17th, my 22 year old sister and best friend, Kamila, suffered life-altering injuries which include the partial loss of her left arm (below elbow), her left leg (below knee), and some facial fractures. Over the first three weeks, Kamila underwent 7 surgeries to address her wounds including numerous arm and leg surgeries, a facial surgery and a skin graft from her back. All in all, Kamila spent 23 days in the Surgical ICU (SICU) and pre/post-operative areas of the hospital.
A little over a month later, Kamila entered inpatient rehab where she was undergoing intensive PT and OT with world-class doctors over the near future. Here, she started to learn skills to regain her muscle strength, learn how to rebalance and regain her mobility. Simultaneously, she also began the prosthetic journey where she will work with a number of care coordinators to identify, size, and fit the prosthetics that are best for her. Additonally, she began to evaluate options for additional facial surgeries down the road. Now, 2 months post-accident, Kamila is returning home and continuing on with her recovery.
Despite all that has happened, Kamila has been remarkably resilient. She has shown grace and courage in the face of major injuries and is eager to adapt to her life ahead. As someone who was incredibly social and physically active prior to her injuries, Kamila is eager to re-engage in those elements of her life. My family and I want to start this fundraiser to help her achieve this and more.
All proceeds will be placed into a special needs trust oriented to helping Kamila on her journey.
