In 2017, shortly after losing her mom, our friend Kami was diagnosed with a rare form of ovarian cancer. This type of cancer, called “Clear Cell Carcinoma,” has a high risk of re-occurrence – even after treatment. After a long surgery, she received 6 cycles of chemo and 6 weeks of radiation.
Kami’s mom was her best friend. Watching her mom pass away from Colon Cancer was traumatizing. The Argyle United Methodist Church became her family. Members of the church accompanied her to treatments, held bake sales, helped with house cleaning and were there for emotional support.
Cancer is a life altering disease. Kami has often said, “This is not my major (when trying to grasp the science that comes with being your own advocate); can I go back to the Fashion Institute?” She had a full life and career before becoming disabled.
Wellness is expensive. Nutrition is high on her list. After being reviewed and approved by the hospital dietitian, Kami needs to have Protein Powder on hand to keep her strength up. She relies on Calming Tea with Valerian for a good night’s sleep; nightmares are a problem without it!
The stress is overwhelming. In addition to the pile of medical bills as a result of cancer treatment and surgery; she has 3 new health concerns.
1. Eye Surgery as a result of a genetic disease called, “Fuch’s Dystrophy.”
2. Dental Surgery required because of chemo side effects.
3. Hernia Operation required due to the result of her initial cancer operation.
Her insurance will not cover the Eye or Dental Surgery and only a percentage of the Hernia peration.
We pray that Kami will win this fight. She has already sold most of her mom’s jewelry to help defray financial crisis and will soon be auctioning off a large portion of her possessions. It is hard for her to ask for help, so with the support of her friends at the Argyle United Methodist Church, Argyle NY, we’re asking on her behalf.
