Christine “Kamai” Kealiʻikanulaʻaukamaʻihoehakino Florence Dell Punahele passed away early in the morning on Friday, August 9. Our beloved Kamai was a graceful and beautiful hula dancer as well as a staple in the Hawaiian community in Orlando. Born in Omaha, NE and raised in Germany, Kamai was the youngest of three girls born to Lilian (nee Flores) and Donald Dell. She is predeceased by her parents and older sister, Kapuanani. Kamai spent 30 years working with the Walt Disney Company ending as an executive assistant before moving on to work with Brown and Brown as an analyst for insurance reconciliation. She supported her husband Kumu Kawehi Punahele in his endeavors as his kākoʻo for Halau Hula Kaleo o ka ʻiwa.
Kamai leaves behind her beloved husband Kawehi Punahele and their four dogs, as well as her sister Tylee, and many nieces, nephews, grand nieces, and grand nephews. We are raising funds to help Kawehi manage the funeral expenses as well as learning to manage daily life expenses on a single income. Whether it’s $5 or $500 any help is greatly appreciated.
