Aloha!
My name is Jasmine Fojas and I am from Pa'auilo, Hawaii. Here’s a little back story:
I was born and raised on the Big Island and attended Pa'auilo Elementary and Middle school till the 8th grade and graduated high school from Hawaii Preparatory Academy, class of 2013. I was on the Wahine soccer, track & field, and cross country team during the duration of my time at HPA.
I moved to McMinnville, Oregon where I attended Linfield College and graduated in 2017 with a Bachelor’s degree in studio art. I have since lived in Beaverton.
In 2021, I started my Hawaiian + Filipino fusion food business called Kalo Kitchen. I started at the Beaverton Farmer’s market on June 25th, 2021. Since then we have done over 70 events and markets!
After moving away from Hawaii, I tried to find my place and worked many different jobs and eventually got into the food industry.
After running Charley’s bistro at Touchmark, Westhills in 2020, it reminded me of the days growing up in my grandparent’s store. It just made sense to start my own business.
I grew up in my families restaurant / convenience store called TnT Parel minimart. TnT stands for Thomas and Teonila which are my grandparents names.
Most of my days were spent hanging out with my chef Aunty in the kitchen, food running, watching reruns of supernatural on small tv next to the register, and of course trying everything that came from the kitchen.
I am happy to say that we are now in the process of getting our very first brick and mortar space in Beaverton! We at Kalo Kitchen would like to open a Hawaiian + Filipino fusion restaurant that is order at the counter with a tropical inspired bar, poke counter, steam table, musubi counter and whatever else comes from our kitchen!
We have reached the stage where it is time to start raising funds to make this happen!
We have been going through an application process for a specific space in Beaverton for the past 6 months and have made it to the final phases. It is a city of Beaverton public project so our next step is to financially secure the spot.
I am looking for investors, so if you would like more information on the project and would like to be an investor, please feel free to reach out via email.
My 7 year old self would be absolutely mind blown by what our small business has accomplished in 1.5 years! (all while she drinks her bottles of Starbucks mocha frappe and eats her rice and pork adobo from the steam table. Oh to be young again!) I want to say a big thank you to everyone who has followed us along on this journey! To everyone who has taken the time to help, even in the smallest ways, thank you for moving us forward. To everyone who chooses to try our food, thank you for giving us a chance! We have a long road ahead of us but I am so excited to see what this year has in store!
Mahalo + Salamat!
