Kalli's Medical fund

Kalli Rose Saunders was born June 1, 2014, a beautiful baby girl weighing 4lbs. 7 oz. and perfect, just a month early. In early August mommy noticed she looked a little jaundiced so she took her to her doctor who decided to run some tests, suspecting Biliary Atresia. It wasn't until the morning of August 27 that BA was confirmed and the Kasai Procedure was done that day at Brenner Childrens Hospital in Winston Salem. Everything was going good for several days then Kalli started throwing up so her doctor did an endoscopy and discovered a blockage from scar tissue, not from the surgery but from the damage already done before diagnosis. The surgeon was able to fix the blockage and again Kalli was doing good. About a week later she started passing blood so they did another endoscopy and discovered a leaky vessel in her lower esophagus, they were able to inject some medicine and stop that leak but she had some other bulging vessels that were of concern.

All during this time since her diagnosis her doctor was in contact with Duke Medical Center and the doctors in Baltimore, MD and all of them together decided that the best place for Kalli to be was Duke Medical Center so on Sept. 24 she was transported to Duke. Since being at Duke she has had another episode of passing blood and another endoscopy to look at it and stop that leak. This time they were not able to remove her breathing tube because her heart rate would drop so they decided to leave it and let it help her breath so she wouldn't have to work so hard and they kept her sedated so she could rest and heal. That was on October 3rd and as of today, Oct. 8 she is still intubated but they are going to try to remove the tube today.

Kalli was sent home right before Thanksgiving and had been doing well until March when she started vomitting blood. She was readmitted to Duke. She continued to have bleeds. They kept moving her PELD score up. She needed a liver transplant. So on April 18 received a new liver. Soon after she started having more complications and her heart stopped a couple of times on Sunday. She was bleeding out as well as other complications. They relisted her on Monday, and she received another liver on Tuesday. Praise be to the LORD Almighty. She has been doing well since then. We are so grateful to the families that chose to donate and give someone else a second chance. May God give them strength and grace during their time of grief. Please continue to keep her and her family in your prayers. She has a long recovery in front of her, but she a fighter.

We are so grateful to everyone who is willing to donate to Kalli's cause and who continue to keep her and all of us in your thoughts and prayers.

Thank you all so much. God Bless Each and Every One Of You!!
