My name is Ceda' Williams- Cosby and I am the proud mother of my beautiful 13 year old daughter Kaliyah Carnes. Kaliyah is the beautiful daughter of Mario Carnes (Veteran United States Navy) of Spring, Texas. We are originally from Charles City County, Virginia but currently reside in Henrico County, Virginia. I am trying to raise money for a handicap accessible van. Born full-term with no complications at birth, Kaliyah was diagnosed with cerebral palsy at 11 months old. This was followed by being diagnosed with a rare seizure disorder at 12 months old. With her long battle of seizures throughout the years, neurologists have tried to find the right medications to stabilize her seizures. But through faith and prayers from doctors, family and friends, Kaliyah has been stable from her seizures for 4 years. Although she remains stable, the seizures left Kaliyah mentally disabled. Kaliyah has been faced with multiple challenges such as being nonverbal, g-tube dependent and wheelchair bound. From 2003 to 2014, Kaliyah has endured multiple surgeries. This past year in 2014, Kaliyah had a spinal fusion done to straighten her spine. Her surgery was a success, but due to the surgery, Kaliyah has grown 12 pounds within a year. Her current weight is 77lbs and has made it difficult for me to lift and transfer her in and out of my car. I feel having a handicap accessible van will make our lives much easier. The van will make Kaliyah more independent and continue to reach the goals set for her. Your contributions will provide my daughter with the transportation needed for her monthly doctor appointments, school, summer camp and weekly therapy sessions. Due to multiple appointments and being Kaliyah's main caregiver, it has been difficult for me to save money to purchase a handicap van. We will be so very blessed and grateful for your donations.
