Kali's Dental Surgery Fund

This plea is for my twin sister, Kali Janshego. While Kali is not the type of person to ever ask for help, our family would like to reach out to as many people as possible in an attempt to help her. She is currently the mother of two young boys and foster mother of our two younger brothers. Last year when I deployed with the US Navy she also cared for my child as her own. Kali has a huge heart, and I do not know of anyone more deserving.
Kali was diagnosed with muscle cancer in her neck (rhabdomyosarcoma) when we were four years old. With this came extensive treatments which include, but not limited to, fifty-four rounds of radiation and three years of chemotherapy. She has had several surgeries and re-constructive surgeries too. Most recently she was diagnosed again with stage 2 thyroid cancer and had a complete thyroidectomy. Once again she is cancer free.
Since her cancer diagnosis, Kali has strived to give back and help out other children who have cancer. She has worked very hard and has successfully completed nursing school and now is a Registered Nurse at Children’s Health of Dallas where she was treated as a child. She has helped so many and is continuing to give back. She currently works on the trauma floor and spends holidays away from her own family to help her “work babies” as Kali calls them.
Because of the treatment she received when she was younger, she now has severe dental issues that are affecting her quality of life. All of her teeth are loose and she can only eat very soft foods; she is in constant pain. In recent years she has contacted several dentists, oral surgeons, endodontists, and plastic surgeons and has been turned down several times due to the complexity of the work she needs done. The radiation she received when she was four has caused damage to the bone that stables her teeth which will require bone grafting to her jaw, and a full mouth of dental implants. Baylor College of Dentistry has quoted $53,243 for the doctors’ portion of the fees which DOES NOT INCLUDE HOSPITAL FEES and is her responsibility because it falls under dental. Kali’s dental only covers $1,500 per year. We have been told the hospital fees are even higher. We are currently waiting to see if her medical insurance will cover any of the hospital costs, but have also been told that it is doubtful that medical insurance will cover the hospital fees because they consider this a dental problem. Needless to say, this situation is overwhelming and discouraging to Kali and her family. We need to raise $53,243 for Kali today to get the doctors started. We will update the website as we find out more about the hospital fees.
Since Kali will never ask her friends or family for financial help, we are seeking it on her behalf. We are hopeful that we can raise the majority of the money to help Kali get the surgeries she so desperately needs. She has made dreams come true for so many while facing so many obstacles and she still stays strong. Please pray about what you might be able to do to help raise the money for Kali. Let’s make her dream a reality!
