Help Kali Heal From Stage IV Cancer
Donation protected
At the age of 31, Kali was diagnosed with a rare, stage IV Thymoma cancer and was told that she had a 20% chance of living 5 years. To be told you have stage IV cancer at age 31 is hard enough, but to add to the heartbreak, Kali's diagnosis came 2 months after delivering her son Maverick. Because of the prognosis, Kali was advised that any treatment would be palliative rather than curative. Kali decided to proceed with the recommended surgery to remove the identified cancer. This life-threatening and extensive surgery removed her diaphragm, stripped the pleural lining, and removed a portion of her right lung. She required a blood transfusion during the operation, as her vena cava tore and she quickly lost a liter of blood. This complication would significantly impact the difficulty of her recovery.
Kali was advised to stop breastfeeding 3 months into Maverick’s life and spent 10 days in the hospital without seeing her baby boy. She has had two major surgeries within these 2+ years, along with delivering Maverick. Her body has endured the unimaginable, especially at such a young age. Fortunately, Kali has been showing “no evidence of disease” since surgery and radically changing her lifestyle.
Kali spent a number of years in marketing before transitioning to a new career in real estate in early 2020. Unfortunately, in the next few months, the COVID-19 pandemic hit, and so did cancer. This created a major disruption in Kali's ability to work and her contribution to their family's income. Kali's various treatments and preventative care are costly -unfortunately, most have not been covered by insurance, which results in extremely high medical bills, leaving their bank accounts depleted and credit cards maxed out. What is covered by insurance is being tackled with high monthly payment plans that feel never-ending. It has taken a significant toll on their lives, not to mention bringing their son into this world with the weight of extremely trying times. It’s been an adjustment, as one can imagine, trying to sacrifice everything but still enjoy life as they learned firsthand how fragile life can be.
Kali's research has lead her to an integrative healthcare approach for continued monitoring and cancer prevention. She is closely monitored by numerous health practitioners that help her create homeostasis of the body to heal. Kali has an extensive alternative therapy regimen and regularly checks bloodwork and other tests to monitor her healing. Kali’s journey and pursuit of healthy healing has given her opportunities to share her story and inspire others in their cancer journey and overall health journey on her Instagram page @healwithcancer. She’s now dedicated her life to her passion for health and living a beautiful life. Through her Instagram page, she has connected with other cancer thrivers and was given the opportunity to share her story on an upcoming docuseries called The Cancer Revolution. You can watch her video submission here: https://youtu.be/jgd_KO3NxCc. Kali hopes that her story can inspire others and that she can give back to others who are faced with cancer.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read about Kali, Sean, and Maverick and their extremely challenging life over the past 2+ years. Kali and Sean are incredibly grateful for the support they’ve had thus far on this healing journey. While they both have been hesitant to ask for help, we decided to create this fundraiser to help alleviate their financial stress and the toll this has taken on their lives: financially, physically, and emotionally. Kali & Sean are incredibly kind people who have always showed up for us when we needed it. They go above and beyond when they can, no questions asked -they are there. I only hope this fundraiser can give back to them in their time of need, as they have done for their friends and family over the years.
Thank you.
