Hi, I’m Gatsby Hermes Gable, but you can call me Gatsby for short! I’m the coolest 4-year-old cat you’ll ever meet. I live in an apartment building where I am responsible for patrolling the grounds. I especially love being in the parking garage, where I can assess the comings and goings of all my neighbors while staying away from any moving cars. I love watching bees on the patio, riding in the elevator, and greeting neighbors when they come home. I’m also a regular at Murphy’s Pub down the street.
My mom adopted me from Priceless Pets Rescue in December 2024. I was at the rescue for several months after I was found wandering the streets of Costa Mesa, CA. Mom and I are best buddies and we live a very happy life.
In February, I was diagnosed with Feline Idiopathic Cystitis, or FIC for short. This means I am prone to urinary blockages and have had 2 already. The one I had in June was almost fatal. Mom rushed me to the emergency vet and paid just shy of $3,000 to clear my blockage. My vet told Mom that I need Perineal Urethrostomy (PU) surgery to prevent me from getting another obstruction. This surgery costs a lot and my mom needs help covering the $5,000 expense.
Mom has done everything she can to prevent my blockages. I eat prescription food and she keeps my life stress-free, including taking me out for garage time and turning on the water in the shower whenever I demand. Alas, my genetics make me high risk and crystals keep forming in my bladder. This is extremely dangerous and can be fatal as each blockage gets worse. Surgery is the best option to keep me my cool, handsome, healthy self.
My mom and I are looking at more cost-effective avenues for my surgery, including going out of state where it is less expensive. Mom does not want to burden anyone with the enormous financial cost and does not like asking for help. But after covering the cost of my last hospitalization, prescription food, and numerous vet appointments, she is struggling to come up with the funds for my surgery and is out of options.
To help Mom out, I decided to create a GoFundMe to raise donations for my surgery. I’ve only lived with my mom for 7 months and am not ready to part ways with her yet. I’m calling on everyone to help us live our happily ever after by contributing if you are able, or sharing this with those who can. Every little bit helps!
Lots of love,
Gatsby and Mom (aka Kalie)
