On March 18th Joel tragically passed away at the tender age of 28. In the last year of his life, Joel has undergone an incredible transformation, driven by the birth of his beautiful daughter, Kalia Felicia Oliviero-Stewart.
He loved her with everything he had and risked so much to be close to her. Before finding work at the University of Michigan, he'd quit his job in Atlanta and moved to Ann Arbor with no guarantee of employment and little savings. H e was so determined, so committed to being a great parent, both present and involved.
We loved Joel so, so much, are incredibly proud of the man he'd become, and miss him desperately. In the last year or so, it seemed things were finally coming together for him. He'd finally gotten a break.
Being with Kaila was the happiest we can ever remember seeing him. With Joel's passing, Kalia is now left without a father. We know Joel would want us to do everything we can to take care of her. This is our first step to doing that and making sure she knows how just how much her father loved her.
Anything you can do, any sum, sharing this message, even words of encouragement are hugely appreciated by our family.
If you made it this far, thank you for reading. Our lives will never be the same, but we will always have Joel's spirit with us.
