Kali O’Ray first fell in love with art when he lived in Atlanta studying graphic design. That is also where he met his wife Katera. In 2009, his mother, Ave Montague of the San Francisco Black Film Festival passed away and he began his journey back in San Francisco where he was raised to continue her legacy. Kali’s passion for art speaks to who he was and his passion speaks to the heart he carried. He was involved in multiple web, music and media projects throughout the city of San Francisco

Kali was not only known for his involvement in the San Francisco Black Film Festival and the media but also the Fillmore community. He had many views and ideas on how to help the community grow further. He helped to re-build the community and had tremendous love for others. You could almost always catch him at the Boom Boom Room helping to re-grow the Fillmore’s most beloved and historical places and having conversations about his cherished community and people.

Kali’s legacy is lived on and survived through his kids, Cree, Kali Jr., Ahmad and Jairri, aside his wife Katera.

We will miss him dearly more than words can express. Rest In Peace King and we will carry on your legacy for the San Francisco Black Film Festival always.
