Kaley needs a Van
Donation protected
Kaley is a 12 year old girl with Rett syndrome . She is a very happy and sometimes energetic girl that needs maximum assistance. She is now about 70 pounds and her parents are the only ones that can transfer her from her wheelchair to a car seat and back. Kaley also doesn't get to enjoy some trips that she used to enjoy due to the process of getting her wheelchair broken down and set up each time we go somewhere to fit in the trunk of our cars. This also creates a lack of space for other items.
Our goal is to get a wheelchair van for Kaley within the next few months. We plan for Kaley to live a long happy life and want to have a van that will support that. Therefore we want to invest in a new conversion van that can last us for many years rather than a used van with 50,000 miles on it that may not last us much longer.
A new conversion van is significantly above our budget. We are getting assistance from the waiver program but the cost of the van out of pocket will still be over our budget. Insurance does not help cover vehicles or home modifications for special assistance as they are not considered a medical necessity. I assure you this is a necessity. This is not a want. We would not buy a new Mercedes knowing we could not afford it, but this van is a necessity for Kaley's quality of life and for others to be able to help us care for her as she continues to grow.
We are not looking to fully fund the van through this endeavor, we are just looking for any assistance anyone is willing to offer. We would also be interested in learning of any grant programs anyone may know of that we can apply for to help us offset the purchase of this van.
