Kaleihua's medical fund

Kaleihua Iholani was born with a genetic abnormality. This has caused many unforseen health complications. She has severe pulmonary hypertension and also has cardiac issues (regurgitation in all valves). Due to the hypertension, she needs to stay on oxygen. She also has a cleft palate, choanal atresia, and difficulty hearing. She takes no food orally; everything is given to her through her gastrostomy/jejunum tube.

Kaleihua is currently in the PICU and is under great distress. She has developed some heart failure and her lungs have become diseased. Her stomach has shut down so she is getting nutrition through an IV only. She is intubated and is on the highest dose of nitric oxide in order to maintain oxygen absorption. They are keeping her heavily sedated and paralyzed, and giving her a myriad of medicines to help balance her blood pressure and keep her heart and lungs functioning. Kaleihua is also fighting off a virus, but because she has a deficient immune system, it takes a greater toll on her body. She is on a tremendous amount of life support which the doctors don't know if she will be able to come off of.

The father of Kaleihua, Na'iwi Teruya, works full time at the Westin Maui resort and spa as a cook, and is also a part time musician at the hula grill in Kaanapali. Dad works plenty of doubles as mom, Monica Chung, is a stay at home mom raising two girls, including Kaleihua, and is expecting a baby boy in August. Now that Kaleihua is hospitalized, Dad has to take off work to be with her, and has already exhausted his family medical leave for Kaleihua's previous hospitalizations. Along with the mounting medical bills and Na'iwi's need to be at Kaleihua's side, the financial stability he provides becomes uncertain and unstable, which is why the family is reaching out and asking for support as they try to cope with the struggle that is at hand, and concentrate on Kaleihua and her need for her parents to be by her side.

Kaleihua is admitted at Kapiolani hospital on Oahu. The Teruya Ohana resides on Maui.
