In this time of uncertainty for all of us, knowing that all families are concerned about jobs and the upheaval of our day to day lives due to the COVID-19 virus, we are faced with the need to ask for help. Kaleb has been in the hospital for more than two weeks now, and it appears he will be there for the immediate future.
He has severe pneumonia and sepsis. He has been on a ventilator since going into the hospital. His temperature fluctuates, but has been around 99 to 101 the past few days. His blood pressure, which was very low, is near normal now and is staying stable. He is now on his stomach most of the time. When he is on his back, his heart rate goes crazy. They try waking him up every day, and that's when it happens. So, they put him back on his stomach to stabilize the heart rate. The doctor said his x-rays are better (they do them every day) and he is making progress. The doctor confirmed he is NEGATIVE for the coronavirus. All his tests for other things have come back negative. Apparently he has been walking around sick for a while, with his lungs filling up with pneumonia. If he had not gotten to the hospital when he did, he would not be with us. The immediate problem is the acute respiratory distress. The doctor also said that without any setbacks, the respiratory problems will improve or dissipate as his lungs improve. He will be in ICU at least another month. They may do a tracheotomy. We know there will be a rehabilitation process, and what that involves will be determined when he wakes up and more assessment can be made.
While there are many things we are trying to address, one immediate need is to pay the rent on the trailer space to ensure he and Abby will have a place to go when this is, hopefully, over. It is going to be a long road. We don't have the ability to sell the trailer, so we have to try to keep it where it is. None of us have the funds to move it, even if there was another place to take it. There are also other obligations that need to be taken care of . At the moment, expenses for gas to go back and forth to the hospital are minimal, since we cannot visit. However, there are, and will be, expenses for food, his mom's travel back and forth from Lamar, and related items. Everyone is using Grandma's car for transportation. It has a needed repair so we can take care of what needs to be done.
If you can help, it will be greatly appreciated. If you can't help monetarily, continued prayers for recovery would be a wonderful contribution.
