Kala Javon Watts, 42, of Rapid City, South Dakota, passed away on October 9th at Monument Health Rapid City Hospital with her family by her side. Kala was a beautiful, intelligent, caring person who was indeed a light to many people.
Kala was born to Kim Whitney (Watts) and Jim Watts on February 5th, 1980, in Belle Fourche, South Dakota. She spent her childhood in Spearfish, South Dakota, graduated with honors from Spearfish High School in 1998 and was an active member of the soccer team, volleyball team, and cheerleading squad. Kala later graduated from National American University in 2009 with an Associate of Applied Science in Paralegal Studies. Immediately after graduation, Kala started a rewarding career with Dakota Plains Legal Services.
She is survived by her mother, Kim Whitney, father, Jim Watts, brothers, Jamie (Jodi) Watts and family and Mitchell Lewis-Watts, sister, Toni (Tom Glanville) Schavone and family, grandfather, Chester (Joyce) Whitney, grandmother, Peggy Whitney, niece, Madison Watts, uncle, Rene (Beverly) Watts (Sundance), aunt, Dee (Kim) Carroll (Gillette), uncle, Melvin (Kathy) Watts (Texas), aunt, Sandi Bedegi (Gillette), and numerous extended family members including nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She is preceded in death by her grandfather, George Watts Jr (paternal), grandmother, Nina Watts (paternal), aunt, Mae Watts (Necklason).
A Celebration of Life service will be held in Kala’s honor from 5:30 pm – 8:00 pm on October 21st at Studio 621 in Spearfish, South Dakota (621 N Main St, Spearfish, SD)
We invite you to donate in place of flowers. The family will split the funds and donate them to various substance abuse awareness and domestic violence prevention causes within the community in Kala's name.
