Hi, my name is Debbie Boomhower and I am fundraising for my daughter Kathryn Boomhower Grock. Lovingly known as Kaka to her Niece's, Nephew and cousins.

After helping get her brother through a very rare form of Leukemia, she has been diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma. A blood cancer that attacks the bones. Unfortunately, Kathryn had terrible pain in her back for a long time before she was diagnosed with cancer. She also had fractures in her spine but had no idea how she got them. She was told repeatedly that she had Osteoporosis from an earlier hysterectomy and that was the problem with her back. As time went on her pain became worse and worse. Finally, in November she saw a doctor that told her she had a fractured hip and he also thought she had cancer. She was admitted to the hospital that day for the second time in a month. She had no idea she had a fractured hip she only knew she had pain in her left side besides the pain in her back. She had a total hip replacement four days later. While she was in the hospital she was told she had Multiple Myeloma which was causing her fractures and needed to start care right away. Unfortunately, it took Kathryn over a month to get an appointment with the oncologist and had a delay in starting treatment. After she had chemo for about a month her liver numbers started going up so the doctor had to stop the intervenous chemo but continue to give shots in her stomach which wiped out the little progress Kathryn had made She is in constant pain, she can hardly walk and she is always nauseous.

To top things off, her boss has found out she has breast cancer and will need to go for chemo. Kathryn and the boss are the only two in the company that can do the job Kathryn does. After receiving a doctor's note from the oncologist in December saying Kathryn would be out of work until at least March, the boss was okay with that until the boss found out she has cancer. Last week Kathryn received an email from her boss telling her she needed her back to work by January 31st. Kathryn let her know she is in no shape to return to work at this time and pointed out the excuse from the oncologist saying she was to remain out of work until at least March and telling her she is in constant pain and can not drive with the pain meds she is taking. Thinking she could force Kathryn back to work she then emailed Kathryn and told her she was not terminating her but Kathryn's insurance would be canceled on January 31st. Kathryn has not collected any sort of disability so far. She does not have the money for the cobra payment for her insurance which is due February 1st. How anyone could be so cruel is beyond me. That is why I am doing the Go Fund Me. There is no way anyone with a catastrophic illness can go without insurance. Because Kathryn is not making much progress with the oncologist here in her area she has decided to go to Dana Farber in Boston where they saved her brother's life. Which makes it imperative that she have insurance. We are also asking for prayers for Kathryn. Thank you.
