Update from Kaity 10/31/23:
Hello friends.  We wanted to give you an update and ask for your continued prayers.  Yesterday was an important milestone for Baby Gianna, as we had the anatomy scan at UK Healthcare.  We were very anxious as this scan showed Archie (our 3rd baby) had a cleft lip and palate when he was in utero.

Unfortunately, the scan showed a case of ventriculomegaly, a condition in the brain where the ventricles are enlarged.  Normal ventricles should measure 1.0 cm, and Gianna’s measured 1.7cm.  This condition can lead to hydrocephalus, a neurological disorder caused by an abnormal buildup of cerebrospinal fluid in the ventricles (cavities) deep within the brain. This excess fluid causes the ventricles to widen, putting harmful pressure on the brain's tissues.  Our next step is an MRI scheduled in a few weeks.  This scan will provide more information as we plan our next steps in the coming weeks.

While this is another unexpected hurdle in our journey, we still have great faith in God and His plan.  He hears our cries, and we know His promise.  So please keep those prayers coming.  We feel them, and we need them.

St. Gianna Beretta Molla, pray for us.

Update from Kaity 9/21/23:
Today we received amazing news! All genetic testing for our new baby came back negative and confirmed the gender to be female! We had previously done an at home test to reveal the gender but this makes it 100% official. It’s nice to know we have a healthy baby GIRL on the way due March 14th! Her anatomy scan will be at the end of October and we are praying hard for more good news that day. Stay tuned for that update and an announcement about her extremely meaningful name…

Other than that, I started back on steroids and my headaches have calmed down significantly (Thank goodness!). I am slowly progressing in therapy, walking over 800 feet (with a walker), learning how to take care of my babies again with a weak right side (Poor Andrew has been stuck changing all the dirty diapers ) and working on gaining back all of my cognitive/memory skills.

It’s been very slow progress, which can be frustrating to someone as independent as myself, but I’m pushing through! Huge thank you to everyone for all the prayers and well wishes… they are working!❤️

First Post from Chelsey: My best friend is going through an unimaginable battle. She is being faced with brain cancer while pregnant with her fourth child.
Kaity and I were instant friends with a connection, that I know now, was most definitely divine intervention. God knew exactly what He was doing when He brought our young “college girl” selves together. You see, she stood by me when my husband was diagnosed with a brain mass and underwent multiple brain surgeries. Looking back, I can see how God used those experiences to shape us and prepare our friendship for the journey that lied ahead for her and her family… So, I’m reaching out and asking everyone to help bless them during the biggest trials of their lives.
Four weeks ago Kaity underwent brain surgery to remove a tumor and they were told that the baby in her womb had a high chance of not making it through tumor removal surgery and/or cancer treatments…leaving them completely devastated. But God heard our prayers and the baby is doing well and the surgery was successful with 90-95% of the tumor removed! After surgery she was unable to walk on her own due to right sided weakness. So she has been undergoing intense therapy at Cardinal Hill to regain strength. God heard our prayers and she is regaining strength and sensation in her dominant side!
They have met with her oncologist and he reviewed the full pathology report and thinks she will be able to carry her baby girl full term before starting any chemo & radiation and we are thanking God for this report! She will do brain scans every three months to keep a close watch on her throughout the pregnancy. Pathology report concluded that her cancer (astrocytic) has an IDH mutation inhibitor with a specific treatment type that has worked very well, especially for people under 40. They are very optimistic about her prognosis, and I know they are keeping the faith and putting on the whole amour of God as she prepares for the next phase of this battle.
With everything that has happened, her husband Andrew will be her primary caregiver and transportation to from therapies and doctor appointments, as well as helping navigate daily schedules and care for their three boys. I have experienced first hand the financial hardships that illness and disease brings and I pray that we can help this family by lifting even a little bit of the burden! Anyone that knows Kaity, knows how she lights up a room when she enters and has a gift of making everyone feel so special and loved. I’m excited to see how God will use the generosity of others to paint a beautiful picture of God’s light shining in the darkness!
