Kaitlyn Brooks Funeral

Update 2/22/24: It is with immense sadness that I let you all know that my best friend has went to be with Jesus and her sweet baby Grayson. Any donations will now go towards funeral costs.

What started out as chest pain and a bad cough became something far more serious.

Kaitlyn has been at UAMS in Little Rock since Friday, February 9th. They ran multiple tests trying to figure out what was going on. On Wednesday, they found out through a blood culture that she has bacteria growing in her blood. The infection has caused multiple nodules in her lungs, liver and spleen as well as an infection in her kidneys. This infection also caused a 3 cm mass between her heart and sternum. She has been on antibiotics to get rid of the nodules, but they will not get rid of the mass since there is no blood flow to it. Her team of doctors decided it is best to remove the mass surgically. After her pet scan and a few other tests, they also found that the bacteria is growing on her heart valve. On Tuesday, February 20th, they will go in and perform another open heart surgery to replace her aorta valve, pulmonary valve, and to take out the mass.

As most of you know, Kaitlyn is a single mom of two boys. She works 7 days a week to make sure that her boys have everything they need. She has been in the hospital a total of 10 days and will continue to be until she is released. I am not sure how long recovery will be after surgery, but what I do know is that it takes a village. We are her village. Kaitlyn needs all the help she can get while she is not able to financially provide for her and her babies as well as the dreaded medical bills to come.
