Kaitlin's Study Abroad Art of Italy

Hello Everybody!

My name is Kaitlin Weber I am seeking funding for Metropolitan State University of Denver’s Art in Italy 2017 study abroad trip. I am currently pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Art History, Theory and Criticism. With a prior 2-year academic background in Fine Art: Painting and Drawing.

Since the summer of 2016, I have been working as an intern at Eron Johnson Antiques in Denver. Through this internship I am able to utilize hands-on experience to identify, research, and catalogue antique items ranging from ancient history to mid-century modern design.

 I strive to apply what I learn through my art history degree at MSU Denver and Eron Johnson Antiques to my chosen career path and continue to develop my knowledge base involving vintage and antique furniture, art, textiles, and jewelry with a focus on European and American items. My goal is to work in a museum or auction company as a cataloger and researcher.

How Will Studying Abroad Impact Me and Help My Future Goals?

This study abroad opportunity will strengthen my eye in identifying items made by the rich and poor spanning throughout western civilization by visiting museums, cathedrals and ancient ruins. My perspective will widen enormously by observing, sketching and researching these places and artifacts.

The curriculum will focus on the history of Roman art. I will earn a semester’s worth of credits in 3 weeks and experience a guided trip of a lifetime. The trip plans to take participants to the Bay of Naples, including stops in Pompeii and Herculaneum. It includes a survey of Rome from ancient to Baroque art and a trip to the Vatican City, a site with an enormous concentration of masterpieces. The final week of this trip will be spent in Venice for the 57th annual Biennale, an outstanding international exhibition of contemporary art. Each of these locations, swelling with the origins and advancements of mankind, fine art and art history, are of great interest to me fueling my passion as an artist. I feel studying and experiencing the birth places of art and civilizations will expand my horizons as a student, visual artist and a professional art historian.

What Will Your Donation Go Toward?

The program fees and travel costs come to $6,500 total including tuition, airfare, transportation, museum admission, food and lodging. I have already raised half through federal loans, grants and family assistance. In addition I am applying for scholarships available through my school, selling antique and vintage items from my personal collection and reaching out to local businesses for donations.

Any donation $50 dollars and over I will personally sketch a historical site, a work of art or something of my choice, then send it right to your door. $100 dollars or more I will send a sketch and a small souvenir of my choice, from one of the various locations we visit.
