My name is Kaitlin Myrick, and I was first diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at the age of 2 1/2. As I've aged, I've learned to better deal with the disease, but as the years go by the life saving medication expenses rise as well.
I've recently been given the opportunity to test a new drug to the field of Type 1 Diabetes, Farxiga. This aids in lowering my blood sugar, and improving other Diabetes related complications. Due to the drug not yet being fully approved for Type 1 Diabetics (it is fully approved & on the shelf for Type 2 Diabetics, which is onset later in life & due largely to diet and excericse habits, not genetic like Type 1), it's reccomended I be monitored 100% of the time to prevent fainting & seizure spells, or the other end of the spectrum, going into Ketoacidosis which can cause coma and death.
Even with full coverage insurance, the Dexcom sensor is still wildly pricey, and out of my reach at the moment. The $5,000 will not cover full price of the sensor, but will allow us to reach the maximum of my insurance deductible, and require the company to assist in some of the monthly bills (with the sensor, this will be an excess of $600+ per month that insurance does not cover, the sensor alone is $400 per month).
Any little bit will go a long way, and if we're unable to achieve the full sensor, this will go to the medical account I use to try and keep on top of my monthly medical expenses, with my mom, Nancy Myrick's help as well.
