As many of you might know my daughter Kaitlin was diagnosed with T-Cell Lymphoblastic Leukemia in October 2021 just weeks after her 12th Birthday. Finding out your child has cancer is one of the most devastating news a parent can ever get. Everyone that knows Kaitlin knows she has always been a very smart and loving girl. She has always had a passion for school and for helping others. Unfortunately, due to her Cancer treatment she is no longer allowed to attend regular school and is now enrolled in a home hospital school. These past 4 months have been really difficult for our family before Kaitlin finished her induction phase, she had many complications one of them was getting a stroke on Thanksgiving Day. As if that wasn't enough Kaitlin also lost her strength to walk due to her medications. She developed Steroid Induced Diabetes and then developed Adrenal Insufficiency. As you can see, she has gone has been through so much in just a short amount of time. To make matters worse her Oncologist informed us that she has developed Myelodysplastic Syndrome and the best treatment for her will be getting a Bone Marrow Transplant within the next 4 to 6 weeks. Unfortunately, one of the long-term side effects of getting a Bone Marrow Transplant will be infertility meaning she won't be able to have kids when she's older. For this reason, her Oncologist has referred her to a Fertility Specialist to get a treatment to freeze her eggs so she can be able to have kids in the future. Despite the fact that this is great option we will have to pay for the egg harvesting, fertility medications, and the freezing storage, because it is not covered by her insurance. Everything has happened so fast and is only giving us a short amount of time to get this procedure done before her Bone Marrow Transplant which will be happening in the next 4 to six weeks. Therefore, we would be very thankful for any help we can get to help covered the cost for this fertility treatment that gives Kaitlin a chance to be able to have children in the future.
