Our beautiful friend Kaitie Nash, has recently been diagnosed with Functional Neurological Disorder (FND) — a debilitating condition that affects how the brain communicates with the body. While FND can be life-changing and severely limiting, it is not formally recognised as a disability, making access to support and services incredibly difficult.
Years ago, Kaitie and her family made the huge decision to move to the farm in the middle of a drought. Since then, we have watched her grow into the “first time farmer” we all know and love — learning the ropes of farming from the ground up, sharing the highs and lows of rural life, and building a beautiful online community along the way. Through her platform, Kaitie has raised money, awareness and offered support to others navigating the mental and physical challenges of learning something new, living rurally, and raising a family, all while being the devoted mum we adore to her two boys.
Unfortunately, Kaitie has recently become unwell, and is now facing challenges no one could have prepared for.
There are specialist therapies and services available that can support recovery and give Kaitie the best possible chance of returning to the farm and everyday life — but only if you can afford them. Like many families doing it tough, they had previously made the difficult decision to cancel their private health insurance to manage costs during hard times. This now means the care Kaitie urgently needs comes with an overwhelming financial burden.
Living rurally adds another major hurdle. Services are incredibly limited and are hundreds of kilometres away, bringing significant costs for travel and accommodation, along with time off the farm for her husband so he can support her — on top of already substantial medical expenses.
Anyone who knows Kaitie knows she is always the first to drop what she’s doing to help someone else. She has raised money for many charities and supported countless people over the years. Asking for help does not come easily to her, and she has very reluctantly agreed to this GoFundMe — but right now, she truly needs it.
Time is critical in FND rehabilitation, and unfortunately, in this situation, so is money.
We know times are tough for many people right now. If you’re able to spare even a couple of dollars, it would be so deeply appreciated and will go a long way in helping Kaitie access the care she needs.
Thank you so much for your kindness, generosity, and support
