Hello , everyone my 19 year old daughter was involved in a terrible car accident on Monday, September 6, 2021. She and her friends were traveling back to school, an hour away when her tire blew out. They were on the side of the highway when she called to let me know what happened. As I was talking to her, all of a sudden I heard a horrific scream…..”Mommy help!!!” They had been hit from behind. At the time, I had not known what exactly happened because I didn’t hear the actual crash. Please don’t ask me how, but thank God I did not.
As I frantically drove 4 hours, I then found out she and one of her friends had been rushed to the ER at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital. Once I arrived to the hospital and I was finally allowed to see her is when I learned the nature of her condition. Thank God she was alert with stable vitals, however, she laid in bed unable to move.
As I spoke to the Nurse she explained to me that my baby had two deep lacerations in her head that required staples. She also had a fractured scapula blade, fractured hip, and fractured back. I have never been so scared and cried so hard, while feeling helpless. The Neurosurgeon came in and said that she had to have surgery due to her inability to move her legs and feet.
On last Friday she did have surgery which went well according to her Surgeon. As of today, she still can not move her legs but she does feel sensation. She continues to be in a lot of pain but is handling things to the best of her ability.
We are being told that she has to go directly to Inpatient Rehabilitation to help regain her ability to walk. The minimum stay is anywhere from 2-3 weeks or could be longer. At this time we do have to pay out of pocket for her stay in which it happens to be very costly. We also have to buy her assisted devices such as a wheelchair, walker, and a hospital bed once she returns home.
I don’t know exactly what her road to recovery looks like but I know she will continue to need intensive physical therapy. I never imagined this would have happened to my baby as well as the emotional distress this has caused our family. I am graciously asking for anyone that is able to help, please donate to my daughter’s road to recovery. Anything will help and our goal is just an low estimate of what the total cost of what her medical expenses will actually be.
Her life has dramatically changed all at the blink of an eye! I am so grateful that my child and her friends are even alive. The car shows that it was only God that kept them. I am optimistic that she will go back to a normal life soon but this is so difficult to go through now.
Thank you for everyone that has prayed for us, from family, friends, and even strangers. I appreciate every call and every text. I also thank the Healthcare workers that have been taking care of my baby from Day One. Even if you donate a dollar, I thank you from the bottom of my heart and for those that can’t Prayers are enough for me…..Thank you!
