My sweet friend Callie and her husband Taylor struggled with infertility for 2 years and after multiple treatments, they found out they were expecting triplets. Shortly after, they suffered the loss of the 3rd baby.
At their 18 week anatomy scan, the doctors came in and informed Callie and Taylor that Twin A (Kai) had a rare condition called CDH. Basically, Kai had a hole in her diaphragm that allowed her organs to travel into her
chest leaving 0 room for lungs to grow and pushing her heart into Kai’s armpit. In Texas, Kai was given pretty much 0% chance of survival.
For Kai to have any chance at life, the Adams family had to temporarily relocate to Florida. As you can imagine this was a huge expense. They have been there for 2 months already and have at least another 2 month stay if things go as planned.
The Twins were born at 35 weeks at Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital on Sept 30th. Kru (baby b) had to spend 18 days in the NICU and Kai is currently still in the CDH unit. Kai was immediately placed on ECMO (life support) and had repair surgery within the first 12 hours of life.
As you can imagine their medical bills are astronomical. With ECMO being 12k a day, Kru in the NICU for 18 days, Kai in the CDH unit for months, Airbnb, food, Taylor flying back and forth every weekend from work to spend time with his family in FL, the expenses are overwhelming to say the least. Thank goodness they have insurance but the deductible is 45k before insurance starts paying for anything…
If you feel led to help financially please do, if not they are just asking for prayers at this time as they go through this difficult time while Kai fights for her life.
