In early January 2025, we received heartbreaking news—our sweet Kai has squamous cell carcinoma, a type of head and neck cancer. We first noticed a small growth under his tongue behind the incisors in September 2024. Our vet suggested we observe for a while before performing a biopsy to rule out anything serious. To our complete surprise, the growth behind the incisors under his tongue was cancer.

After meeting with an oncologist, we were told that the best chance for Kai to live a long, pain-free life is through aggressive surgery to remove part of his lower jaw. It’s an overwhelming reality, but we know this surgery could give him more happy years filled with love and belly rubs.

To make things even more complicated, just hours after we met with the oncologist, Megan’s employer informed her that she would be losing her full-time job at the end of February. We never imagined being in this position—facing such a critical medical decision for Kai while also dealing with financial uncertainty.

Despite these challenges, we don’t want finances to prevent Kai from getting the care he needs. Some loved ones have asked how they can help, and we are deeply grateful for any support—whether it’s a donation, a share, or simply kind words of encouragement.
