* This is Kairoh, my lovable goofball. Hater of rain, and chaser of squirrels, cats, and occasionally birds. On any given day, he can be found running laps in our backyard trying to jump and see what our neighbor is doing. Otherwise he’s cuddling up in a blanket or right on top of my feet as I draw and work at my desk. Over the course of the last year and a half, a growth had appeared on his front leg and over the course of only a few months, has grown exponentially. At first, I didn’t really worry about it because he was happy, healthy, and paying it no mind; but recently things took a dramatic turn for the worst. After consulting the veterinary teams at multiple offices, it has been decided that amputation is the best (and only) option.


* Right now the mass is growing along a major vein in his leg that leads to a major artery. If left alone, not only would it continue to grow, but his life could be in more and more danger. I don’t want to lose my friend, you guys.


* I knew that the surgery was going to be expensive, but nothing prepared me for an estimate like what I received! Here’s a copy of the invoice. On the lower end, getting his leg removed and no other tests done, I’m looking at $3,897.00. If I want a biopsy and bloodwork done, I’m looking at the higher price of $6,152.00

* I tried to convince myself that I could raise the funds myself. I applied for multiple loans and credit card options for payment and was swiftly declined, but it wasn’t until chatting with a friend that it dawned on me that kind, genuine people exists and that they’re willing to help if I were to simply have the courage to ask!


* The good news in all of this is that he’s healthy and strong (you know, minus the hideous growth and all), and because of that he’s expected to come out the surgery with minimal risk and live a long, healthy life. The more money we can raise, the more can get done, and the sooner he can continue living his happy, adventurous, soon-to-be 3-legged life!
