Kainan's Krew Kicking Cancer
Donation protected
Kainan is the now 6 year-old son of Tom and Sarah Eslahi; who reside in Jefferson City. On Monday, December 5th Kainan began experiencing debilitating headaches, where he was screaming uncontrollably and being woken up from the pain. After 3 episodes of this he was taken to MU Hospital, in Columbia. Where an MRI was performed, and they located a mass in his cerebellum. Neurosurgeons came and scheduled him for urgent surgery to remove the mass. Kainan was transferred to the PICU, and by 10pm he began having seizures, and so a CT was performed and showed he was swelling. Kainan remained reactive to only pain but otherwise unresponsive to another stimulus. He began throwing up and was rushed to emergency surgery. On December 7th, 2022; doctors informed the family that Kainan's mass was malignant. Oncology began working with the family.
Kainan was diagnosed with a pediatric brain cancer Medulloblastoma as further testing was completed, he was diagnosed with an aggressive Large Cell Anaplastic SHH form of Medulloblastoma.
Since initial diagnosis, he also received the additional diagnosis of Constitutional Mismatch Repair Syndrome (CMMRD) which is a rare condition that makes a child more likely to develop brain tumors, cancers in the blood and lymph systems, polyps and cancers of the gastrointestinal tract, as well as other pediatric cancers. He can develop more than one type of cancer at a time or more than one cancer during his lifetime.
Since surgery, where they removed the initial tumor, he recovered and then traveled to St. Louis where he is received proton radiation 5 days a week for 6 weeks; and chemotherapy once a week. After arriving for treatment, they discovered 3 new tumors. He returned to MU Hospital where he completed 8 cycles of chemotherapy.
Since the end of treatment Kainan has continued to have post treatment complications, osteopenia(with micro fractures to his feet, spine)
Ongoing fatigue and poor appetite and over all immune system compromise.
We are raising funds to cover uninsured medical expenses, transportation, meals, and supplement unpaid leave from work during Kainan's treatment and recovery.
