UPDATE: Kaila has been in the PICU since about the second week of October.
She was getting ready for her bone marrow transplant when she got sick. They found out she was septic.
She was intubated and placed in a medically induced coma.
Thankfully, she was able to come out of the coma but has been intubated and extubated multiple times.
They treated the sepsis and the underlying infection, but she has now developed infections in her lungs and sinuses.
She is a fighter, and we are all spending as much time with her as we can. She has bad days and slightly better days, but it is very much a rollercoaster. Some days she can talk. Some days she can't.
Your continued prayers, thoughts, and donations are helping to keep this family going, and we are so grateful.

My little brother and his beautiful fiancée and her family have had a rough go of it.
Kaila was first diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia in 2019. After a hard battle, she beat it!
Last year, 2024, her mom was diagnosed and fought stage 3 breast cancer that had metastasized. She had multiple rounds of chemo and various surgeries and had a much longer recovery than anticipated. Unfortunately, because of that, she was unable to work. She was just starting to feel well enough to look for work.
A few weeks ago, Brandon was diagnosed with Graves' Disease. He's been on various medications, and will now be treated with a chemo-like therapy to kill his thyroid to stop the overproduction that caused him to lose over 80 pounds in one month.
And now, after almost 6 years of being cancer-free, we got the confirmation that Kaila's Acute Myeloid Leukemia has come back.
Monday, Brandon took her to the emergency room for something completely unrelated. Just a painful bump. That painful bump turned into what is going to be a long, painful journey.
Wednesday, after getting back a white blood cell count result of 122,000, she was transferred to Oncology at Phoenix Children's Hospital, where she was treated before. She was immediately placed in the ICU.
Thursday, they did her first round of chemo, a bone marrow biopsy, and lumbar puncture.
She is now receiving chemo treatments two times a day, and will have to have bone marrow biopsies every week to check the progress.
We are thankful that they caught it early, but they are fighting it aggressively. And it is fighting back. After getting her blood cell count down significantly, she is now fighting a fever that won't let up.
This has all happened so fast, the family has not had a lot of time to catch up.
We're asking that everyone keep Brandon, Kaila, and her family in your thoughts and prayers.
Any donations received will go directly to helping the family with medical expenses, travel, and to help with household bills so that Brandon and her dad, Ed, can afford to miss a few days of work here and there in order to spend as much time with Kaila as possible.
