To everyone who has supported our family so far, thank you. The kindness, donations, messages, and support we have received during this time have meant more than we could ever properly put into words.
As many people already know, this fundraiser was originally created to support my nephew and help his family manage the challenges following his accident and his ongoing care needs.
My nephew continues to fight through life-changing injuries and the challenges that come with being a quadriplegic. He remains an inpatient at the Royal Children’s Hospital, where every day involves medical appointments, therapies, equipment, and constant care as his parents do everything they can to give him the best possible chance at recovery and quality of life.
Since then, life has continued to throw even more challenges their way. Alongside caring for their son, my sister in-law has also been diagnosed with Stage 3 triple positive breast cancer. She commenced treatment through Peter Mac Cancer Centre on 22/5, and this journey will continue over the next 12 months, including immunotherapy and chemotherapy, specialist appointments, scans, and ongoing medical care. Between hospital visits, recovery periods, and simply trying to keep their family together day by day, the emotional and financial pressure has become extremely difficult.
Because of these circumstances, both my sister in-law and brother in-law have had to step away from work far more than they ever expected. As a self-employed family, when work stops, income stops too. While they are currently navigating government, medical support systems, and treatment funding, they have also been faced with significant out-of-pocket medical expenses, including approximately $6,000 for chemotherapy treatment costs that are not covered under the PBS.
Alongside this, many day-to-day expenses continue to build in the background, including:
• household bills and living expenses
• travel to and from hospitals and appointments
• lost income due to time away from work
• ongoing care and support needs for their son
• medical-related expenses during treatment and recovery
We understand that times are tough for many people, and none of us ever expected to be in a position where we would need to ask for help like this. But right now, every bit of support genuinely helps take some pressure off their family while they focus on their son and my sister’s in-laws treatment, and simply getting through one day at a time.
Even if you are unable to donate, sharing this page or keeping them in your thoughts means more than you know.
Thank you again for standing by this family during one of the hardest periods of their lives.
On Saturday the 31st of January my nephew Kaiden went to his friends birthday party. He was having fun with his friends jumping through a hoop into the pool when unfortunately he landed on his head breaking his neck in 2 places and his lower back he immediately lost mobility in his body. He was rushed to the Royal Children’s hospital where he went straight in for surgery to put a metal plate in his neck to release the pressure off of his spinal cord. He is currently still in ICU with no mobility to his body they are unsure if he will ever gain it back.
Kaiden is a beautiful fun loving boy who loved motorbike riding, playing footy and hanging out with his mates so this has absolutely shattered his life at 15 when he was just starting to experience growing up.
This has also devastated my sister, brother in law and niece.
Having to see Kaiden like this is the hardest thing they have ever been through and the not knowing the future of their beautiful boy.
Kaidens recovery is going to be a very very long road full of heart ache and uncertainty.
My sister is unable to go back to work as she needs to be there for Kaiden 24/7. My brother in law runs his own small business so having to be there to support my sister and Kaiden has put them in a difficult spot financially.
I am asking for any type of help to allow them to be together through this devastating tragedy as a family unit without the added stress of work bills etc.
Thank you and appreciate anything you can do to help.
please share this around as much as possible.
