Kai's Top Surgery Fundraiser

Hi, my name is Kai and I'm a 31 years old trans non-binary person of colour. I am writing to you in the hopes that you may help me raise funds for my gender affirmation surgery which is scheduled to happen mid this year. I have always had a fraught relationship with myself but slowly I have been unfurling and evolving in ways that have helped me live my life more authentically and happily.

I have been wearing a binder for more than 6 years to flatten my chest and it has greatly eased my dysphoria however I am now at the point in which I cannot live life comfortably without having a double mastectomy otherwise known as top surgery. I have thought about top surgery for a long time but have become overwhelmed by how much it costs on many occasions. I have also struggled to reach out and ask for help from my community and so this possibility to grow has always been pushed deep into the back of my mind. This operation would vastly improve my mental health and change my life. This is why I am reaching out to you to help me achieve my goal. 

In order to be covered by a private health care fund and receive a rebate I would have to wait 12 months. This simply is not a viable option for a lot of trans people and so I am hoping to raise part of the funds through this platform and pay the rest of the fees with what I have managed to save so far. I will be in recovery for 6 weeks and part of the money raised will go towards post surgery needs. Dr Cheng will be my surgeon. He is highly regarded and a lovely person who I feel very safe with. He will perform the procedure at Masada Private Hospital where I will be staying for one night. In total the entire procedure will cost between $10,000 to $12,000. If you are in a position to help that would be truly amazing but if not than sharing it would be lovely too! If I happen to raise more than the asking amount I plan to pay it forward to other people needing help financially. Thank you so much x
