In late October Kai's doctors discovered a large mass located on one of her ovaries. Kai's medical team moved swiftly and scheduled Kai within days to have the tumor removed. In surgery Kai's doctor's found a large sex cord stromal tumor that wrapped around one of her ovaries. Kai's surgeon removed the tumor, ovary, and several lymph nodes and Kai was officially diagnosed with Endocrine Cancer.
The chemotherapy that Kai will be receiving is particularly difficult on the ovaries and eggs, and it is Kai's hope that she will be able to take part in an egg retrieval procedure. This retrieval process will cost anywhere between $7,000-$10,000 out of pocket, in addition to Kai's cancer treatment costs which has already amounted to just over $4,000 (figure has been adjusted).
Kai has always hoped to be a mom, and while she knows that there are many ways to become a mom, she has always envisioned being the biological mom of her children. For those of us who know and love Kai, the idea of this incredible woman bringing a child into this world is a joy that we all hope she will be able to experience someday (after she kicks the crap out of cancer!)
We have three weeks to help Kai achieve the future she has always envisioned for herself. So let's do this... Let's retrieve some eggs and support Kai with her overall medical bills!!
