At just 15 years old, our nephew Kai should be focused on hanging out with friends, playing sports, and enjoying being a teenager — not fighting cancer.
Kai went to the ER last week 3/3 for some shoulder pain. While there the doctors discovered a large tumor near his rib and chest wall & was immediately admitted to U of M Pediatric Oncology. After further testing and a biopsy, we have received the devastating diagnosis: Ewing Sarcoma, a rare and aggressive bone or soft tissue cancer that most often affects adolescent teens.
The word everyone prays not to hear in their lifetime, let alone for a child.
Kai is an amazing nephew, cousin, son, grandson, friend… with a huge heart and a competitive spirit. He loves soccer, spending time with his friends, and getting outside to play disc golf with his dad whenever he can. Whether he’s on the field or out on a course, Kai brings energy, determination, and a smile that makes everyone around him better.
The road ahead will be challenging and is starting TOMORROW 3/12. Aggressive chemotherapy, surgery, possibly radiation, specialized treatments, and many many hospital stays. His family will be traveling for medical care and spending a great deal of time supporting Kai through every step of this fight.
While their focus is on helping Kai beat this, the emotional and financial strain of medical treatments, travel, and time away from work can be overwhelming.
We are asking our community — friends, family, teammates, and anyone who feels moved to help — to rally around Kai and his family during this incredibly difficult time.
Your support will go to Jasons sister & Joe to help with medical costs, travel expenses, and the many unexpected challenges that come with fighting cancer.
Most importantly, we ask for your prayers, encouragement, and support as Kai begins this journey.
The love and support from everyone means more than we can express. To help give Kai’s mom & dad the space they need to focus on him right now, we ask that you please hold off on calls or texts. Updates will be posted here as we’re able.
