Hello friends, family and any person reading this. As some of you know and a lot of others don’t, times have been tough for our family the last couple months. My brother Jairo Melendez who on his behalf I’m making this GoFundMe for was admitted to the hospital on January 8th due to severe Covid-19. 3 weeks passed as his condition only worsened he had to be transferred to the intensive care unit. The situation went from serious to dire in a matter of days. Second day in ICU Jairo was intubated and put on a ventilator. Doctors and nurses informed us his death probability was around a 90% and said he would possibly not make it out alive. He was intubated for a total of 3 weeks and in those 3 weeks we were told 3 different times they thought we had lost him and that he wouldn’t make it to the next day. The last time we were told he wouldn’t make it, that very next day was the first time we heard good news since he had been in the hospital. A miracle happened and those were his first signs of any improvement. A couple of days later with him progressing daily and trying to get him off the ventilator the best option was to have a tracheostomy. It’s a surgical procedure which consists of making an incision in the middle of the neck to open a direct airway by making another incision in his windpipe to help him breathe while still being on a ventilator. Fast forward to today, 11 weeks later doing a lot better he made it, he pulled through by the grace of god and beat the odds. Unfortunately it will be a long road to recovery. With him being there this long he has lost 55 pounds. His lungs were and are so severely damaged that most likely he will need a lung transplant. Jairo officially got taken off the ventilator last week and now the goal is to take him out of the ICU and to the Rehabilitation Center in the same hospital to begin his therapy. A closer step to bringing him back home mostly to his son Leo who misses him very much and who some of you also know was diagnosed and is battling Leukemia since April 2021. We all know no matter what we go through, life keeps going and bills don’t stop so that is the reason for setting up this account. For those who know Jairo and those who don’t he’s a great, hardworking, caring and selfless person who would do anything to help someone but wouldn’t want the same in return. Who works hard for what he wants and never likes to ask for help especially money so this is another reason for setting it up for him. I know times are difficult and everyone has their own problems going on so if you can’t donate then a share goes a long way and if you can donate anything helps and we appreciate every single one of you so much.
