On February 15th, in the early morning hours, my uncle Mike was severely injured in a car crash on I-95 on his way to work and was Medi-Vac’d to the hospital after first responders were able to revive him from cardiac arrest with 3 EpiPen injections. He suffered a C6 spinal injury, 15 broken ribs and a broken sternum which are now metal plated to re-architect them, a broken arm, broken clavicle, traumatic brain injury, spleen removal along with a section of pancreas and colon repaired to address internal bleeding, collapsed lungs and bruised heart. There was an initial expectation the severity would ultimately take its toll - but after enduring 9 surgeries, almost 3 weeks on a ventilator and 2 bouts of pneumonia, his tenacity to fight and the extraordinary hospital team behind him have kept him with us. He remains in ICU and is very slowly making steps toward recovery. His wife Dawn Marie has been by his side every day, but the financial burden of traveling, hotels, and hospital bills is taking a toll.
Michael is a loving husband, father, and grandfather who adores his family and is a generous friend, willing to help anyone in need without expectation. His wit and humor and passion for sports have always served to connect the community of all those around him with love and laughter.
Mike will need extensive physical therapy and support once he's released from the ICU. Please consider contributing to the fund to help support his family during this difficult time.
