Kafe Louverture Needs Your Help.......
After a successful 5 years of operating in Brooklyn NYC, Kafe Louverture made the hard decision to relocate to survive. It was heartbreaking not only to husband-and-wife duo Anthony Cunningham and Joanne Saget, but to their community in Bedford Stuyvesant. They gave hope to small business owners and black families, especially when they were featured on NY1 TV station and in the New York Times this year. Cunningham and Saget were avid supporters of local artists, painters and small businesses by either showcasing them in their cafe or buying from them directly. They imported coffee and chocolate from struggling farmers in Haiti, as well as artisanal crafts and paintings from impoverished artists. NY1 interviewed Cunningham and Saget when they raised money and supplies for Hurricane Matthew victims in Haiti. They brought their community together and were able to ship much-needed supplies like flashlights, batteries and toiletries. It's our turn to help them.
To avoid their fate of permanent closure like most restaurants in NYC during this pandemic, Kafe Louverture's last hope to stay afloat was to relocate. They packed their bags and moved to a Redevelopment area, Rocky Mount in North Carolina. Now after six months, they are faced with the same dilemma except this time they have yet to open their doors. After qualifying for SBA and personal loans several months ago, they have been getting the runaround and no loans have been processed. Most small businesses in this area are experiencing the same struggle now and everyone is in a holding pattern with no solution in sight. Building construction seems to have ceased in Rocky Mount. Cunningham and Saget have already taken on a mortgage to secure the real estate, worked with architects to design the space and completed the demolition work. They need help to complete construction and buy the equipment they need for their cafe.
Money raised will pay for:
Construction and Build Out - Electrical, Plumbing, HVAC, Roof and Facade
Building Permits
Equipment Costs - Exhaust Hood, Walkin Freezer Box, 2 Floor Dough Mixers
Black Art & Haitian Culture Display
Artisanal Space
Local Artist Gallery Wall
