Summary:
My 19-year-old daughter, Kaela, was on her motorcycle on February 13 when a car suddenly pulled in front of her. She is suffering from a shattered femur, and a catastrophic foot injury which has thus far required 4 surgeries and multiple pins to keep it in one piece. These are the two major injures - others include things like a broken thumb, punctured lung, and various other injuries - but the foot was the most severe of the injuries. She was in ICU for 14 days, and has been in a physical rehab center for over a week so far.
Details:
Kaela was two weeks away from taking her MEPS exam for entrance into the armed forces (Army), where her MOS would have been in Intelligence and Technology. She's an energetic, intelligent, driven young woman at the beginning of her adult life. She was heading home to Ocala from Port Saint Lucie on her motorcycle, when the driver of a car decided to make a sudden left into her lane without looking. She hit the driver's side door without any warning and was airborne.
The surgeon has told us she will never be fully functional now; the left femur/right foot combo will prevent her from ever entering the military, a goal she has aspired to since she was in the 6th grade!
This whole thing happened while I was unemployed, and we are without insurance. The costs associated with this are staggering - the medical bills alone will likely be in the seven figures - but we have immediate costs for her, including prescriptions, a wheelchair, a sled, travel expenses, rehabilitation, and more. This has been financially devastating for her parents, and even more devastating for Kaela, whose entire life has been destroyed by a careless driver.

Her left femur now includes a steel rod and screw from hip to knee

Her foot, including pins, after 4 surgeries and 3 weeks of healing
It just about came off. Her surgeon is a miracle worker and saved her foot.

Thank you all again. Any help you can provide is very appreciated, God Bless!
