Kaelan's club foot journey

Donation protected
Kaelan was born with Congenital bilateral Talipes Equinovarus (club feet). He was diagnosed at 23 weeks gestation. At just 10 days old he started his treatment. First it was weekly visits to Monash hospital for full leg casting to help manipulate his feet. At 10 weeks old he had his 1st surgery which was a Tenotomy- cutting and lengthening of the Achilles' tendon and back in full leg casting. At 13 weeks old he was then placed into a boots and bar splint for 23 hours a day for 3 months and then 14 hours a day for 4 years. At 4 years old when treatment should have finished Kaelans feet relapsed and turned back in, he was tripping over his own feet and constantly falling over. This was not only physically painful for Him but also hit his self confidence hard. He also was in pain walking any more than 50-100 metres at a time having to be pushed around in a pram. We then went back to Monash hospital for weekly full leg casting again which was very hard on an active 4 yo. Kaelan needed to have surgery on his feet once again so we were placed on the waiting list. After 6 months of waiting and seeing my son in pain is had enough it was taking too long, there is up to a 2 year or more wait so I sought a 2nd opinion from a private surgeon who is the top of his field in Victoria. He agreed Kaelan needed surgery and soon so I save everything I could and booked him in. Kaelan had his 2nd surgery 9 weeks ago which was another tenotomy and 5 weeks back in casting. Then his 3rd surgery 4 weeks ago which consisted of another tenotomy and bilateral tendon transfer and back into casting. It's been such a hard time for my poor little man. He now has to get AFO braces for his feet to be worn indefinitely. These braces are custom made and cost over $1200 which I just can't afford right now, I'm still trying to pay off his surgery fees. It was suggested by friends to try this approach in hopes we could get the help we need to help our boy walk and stay walking without further relapses and surgeries. It is Kaelans birthday in 9 weeks and I would love to have his new braces before then so he is able to run around and enjoy himself. I thank anyone who would be willing to help him/us in any way it will mean the world to us
