Most of you know that I have been actively involved in the ministry of Bible Quizzing for several years now (8!). I can't say enough about this incredible ministry. As much as I love and respect God's Word, I would not have otherwise had the support or motivation that I needed to study and memorize so much of the Bible if not for quizzing. It is only because of participating in Bible Quizzing that I am able to see the value of diving more deeply into my knowledge of God's Word, learning it alongside of other teens, and storing it in my heart. Already, the verses I have learned have come back to me to challenge and encourage me at just the right times. It would take an entire book for me to count the ways that quizzing has impacted me, or to adequately express the value of this ministry.
Bible Quizzing, in recent years, has been given an opportunity to expand its ministry beyond just the borders of the country. Two years ago, a VISA team, comprised of teens involved in Bible Quizzing from across the US, travelled to Kenya to help the local missionaries start up a quizzing program. Working with the kids there, the teens spent two weeks quizzing with the local teens, visiting the International Childcare Ministry schools, and serving alongside of the local Kenyan missionaries. This summer, in August 2014, the team will be traveling again to Kenya and working with the kids there. This time, I will be going with them.
For years I have been planning, hoping, dreaming, and praying about the opportunity to go on a short-term missions trip. I was thrilled to be accepted to the Kenya VISA team, and right now I am planning and dreaming knowing that it is finally going to come together. I believe strongly in the work this team has done and is going to do, and I can not wait to serve alongside them. The power of memorizing God's Word is not bound by cultures or borders, and I can't wait to see how God works through quizzing in Kenya, just as He works through it in the US, and in my own life. Spreading the gospel through Bible Quizzing"”what could be more powerful?
We will be staying in Kenya for two weeks, leaving in early August, and returning later that month. That leaves us, the members of the team, less than five months to raise both financial and spiritual support. It is our goal to each personally raise between $2800- $3000 to cover our expenses, and as many prayers as we can possibly rally. If you would be interested and are able to support me either through finances or prayers, I can't even tell you how much that would mean to me.
Thank you so much for your support. To those of you interested, I will definitely keep you updated on the progress and outcome of our trip. If anyone would prefer to donate via a check, please make the check payable to 'Free Methodist Church' with a memo that reads 'Bible Quiz Visa Team.' Checks can be sent to my team leaders: Brad and Heather Anderson, c/o Bible Quiz Visa Team Kenya, 1870 Irish Lake Lane, Indianapolis, Indiana 46239.
