I have decided this year to get my teacher's certification. It will be at least a two-semester project at San Diego State University a week from the day I write this. I want to teach high school Spanish. In California this requires that I pass a test called the CSET (~$200 each attempt) to prove my proficiency in the language.
I know from the life experiences I've had that I have been given a gift to teach. Some people can tell people information. I have the additional gift of helping someone really understand and apply it to their life, to be passionate about the subjects I convey. I want to form tomorrow's youth and I want to do that with a deeper understanding and immersion in the hispanic language and culture.
I'm asking for help with my basic living expenses the next two months of February and March '05 ($800 rent x2; $200 groceries x2) and the remaining 1/3 of the campaign to make a dent in my books, test, and registration fees. I would like to turn to the wider community for help as I go full tilt in studying and preparing to pass the CSET on March 7. I begin a very good job as a waiter in a high end dining establishment in March and will cease my other server job until then in order60 to completely devote the next 50 days to test prep and enrollment.
Those of you who know me know that my relationship with Christ has taken me to some incredible places in just 26 years of life. I have been priviliged to travel to more than twenty countries, meet people of every creed, color, and philosophy on the way. I've done everything from sleep on the ground with a million pilgrims in Germany to working in the oilfield in Texas after studying for the Catholic priesthood. I want to bring these experiences I have been given to be a very good teacher. Many of you have had an essential part for me getting this far. Now I feel I'm being called to give the gifts I've been given back to the world as an educator and I need your help to take this particular step.
