THANK YOU to everyone taking the time to read Kacie’s story.
Kacie was diagnosed in 2017 with an autoimmune disorder that caused her to develop cirrhosis of the liver. She was really bad off at first, then she progressively felt somewhat better, and her numbers began to regulate to a certain degree. That was short-lived, however, and her team of doctors at Vanderbilt began discussing a live-donor transplant. Things were just about set in place for her nephew Blake to begin his testing to donate part of his liver to Kacie.
In the meantime, while all this testing was going on, she met and married her husband Willie. Kacie got pregnant. We are all in one accord when it comes to believing and knowing that all babies are gifts from God, and His timing is perfect!
The baby is doing so amazing! Kacie is not.
At any given moment, depending on Kacie’s health and the numbers pertaining to her health, the doctors could decide the time is at hand to take the baby. The doctors are hoping to reach at least 28 weeks, but Kacie’s health is so touch-and-go that they are doing more frequent tests and will all meet to discuss the results to determine the urgency of delivery.
Kacie will now need a whole donated liver instead of a partial living donor’s. When the baby is delivered, they should be able to perform the transplant within a week. Kacie will need around-the-clock care.
Because the baby will be born at probably 28 — maybe 29 — weeks, we can expect him to be in the NICU from two to three months, at least. Delivery is going to be extremely critical for Kacie. Because of her liver being decompensated, there is a risk of her losing too much blood. No doubt, she is going to need platelets. There is a reasonable possibility of her needing a full-component blood transfusion, as well. This is also the case for when her transplant is in progress.
Please pray. Number one and most of all, we ask you to please pray!!! We serve an amazing God! Pray for Kacie’s health, the baby’s health, and for everyone to have peace during this time as we all trust upon the Lord. Please pray for how you can help!!! The following is a list of why I am asking for donations to help out Kacie with all these expenses:
- Kacie has two daughters, ten and eleven, who will need caring for during this time.
- Kacie is going to require around-the-clock care, and bills will keep on coming!
- While Vanderbilt covers lodging for parents of NICU babies, food is not included. They will need food! (We are hoping there will be at least a kitchenette, but we won’t know until they are placed.)
- We will not have time for a baby shower.
Thank you for any consideration you give to Kacie by reading her story, sharing this post, giving financially, or giving through prayer.
“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose” (Romans 8:28).
