Our vibrant beautiful daughter Kaci is 14 & has endured her fair share of pain in the past few years, shortly after losing her big brother to suicide she was found to have a femoral cyst in the femur of her right leg. After a failed surgery and her femur breaking, her leg was plated and later diagnosed with Osteosarcama ( Cancer of the long bones) in April 2018. Our nightmare began, our lives ended as we knew it. Our family was thrown into turmoil as we packed and moved to Brisbane instantly, leaving behind Kaci's sisters, her family, her friends & her pets.
Kaci endured 12 months of chemotherapy, bloods collected regularly, blood transfusions, feeding tubes........
She lost her right femur and knee in a 13hr operation & had to learn to walk again. She was then told it was now in her left leg. How much can a child bear.
In February Kaci started on a drug trial, this was to be the breakthrough we have been waiting for. After months of ups & downs, transfusions & side effects that crucified her body, we held hope that it was going to work, this was it.
In May 2019, we held our breath as more CT Scans & an MRI were done, our world was rocked again. Kaci was handed another blow, the cancer in her left leg appears to be growing under the drugs & now there appears to be spots in her lungs as well. After waiting another 2 months, Kaci has had further scans done and our worst fears have been confirmed, our beautiful girl is in the fight of her life. Both areas, in her leg & her lungs have increased in size.
As much as we want to believe we're on the right road, we know we're not. We, Kaci's family will move heaven & earth to ensure she is given every opportunity to beat this thing even if it means taking her overseas for treatment.
We need help, we need to look elsewhere to find answers and a cure for our beautiful Daughter & sister, she has not lived life yet, however she has certainly had her share of heartache and pain in the past few years.
This will take money for airfares (overseas )as well as accommodation, possibly to, Mexico or America, depending on which medical institute accepts Kaci after reviewing her medical results and files. The ongoing medical costs will be beyond our reach. Simple blood tests run into thousands of dollars, these are done in Australia and sent to Germany for analysis.
Our close team of researchers have worked tirelessly to find alternative therapies available around the world, including Australia. Their research will not only help our beautiful Kaci, it will benefit other families who are facing the long and heartbreaking road for a cure for Childhood Cancer.
