Kabinett Gallery is a public art project started in London, UK and Berlin, Germany. Kabinett gives a platform for artists to share their work and for the community to encounter art on the street.
We restore abandoned structures and transform them into micro galleries: project spaces for art, poetry, performance, and free give-and-take libraries. The project has been 100% self-funded for 2 years, and exhibited more than 50 artists and creative practitioners.
Our flagship space, the Crystal Kabinett in Crystal Palace, South London, was burned down on the evening of Saturday, 25 October, 2025. The Kabinett, which was made of a non-flammable fibreglass material, was singed to the ground. We don't know who did this, but we do know that it would not have been possible without an accelerant, which means that it had to be an intentional and explicit act of arson.
At the time of the fire, the Kabinett was covered in a printed paper pattern inspired by the Palestianian Keffiyeh.
We seek funds to explore new opportunities, not to rebuild the Crystal Kabinett but to continue our practice after a devastating blow. Kabinett is an idea and a movement, and can never be burned down. It exists in our imaginations, our hearts, and in the world we build around it. However, it also requires an enormous amount of time, work, and resources to restore these spaces and look after them. We will continue our practice, and appreciate your support in doing so!
